Every parent wants their children to choose healthy nutrition items during their day, but sometimes it’s challenging to persuade and give them the information they need. Every Kid Healthy™ Week recognizes that schools and families need to work together to achieve this, creating this week to acknowledge their achievements. Celebrated during the last full week of April, each day highlights the ways schools and families can improve their kids’ health and wellness. The focus is on the connection between nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and learning.
The following themes are spotlighted throughout the week.
Eating Meals as a Family
Between school extracurricular activities, work responsibilities, and families’ busy schedules, it’s challenging to find a regular time to sit down and connect all as a family. Sitting at the dinner table provides chances for family members to talk about their day and connect to understand one another better. Read more about Eating Meals as a Family.
Take Meals Outside.
Family bonding doesn’t always have to be at the dinner table. Take the meal outside! Plan a family picnic. Gathering the family for a picnic is an easy, accessible way to shake up the day-to-day routine, offering a new environment to open the lines of communication. Make family meals a safe space for children and adults to share their daily observations and feelings about their daily lives. Learn more about how to Pack a Backyard Picnic.
Give Children Healthy Choices
This theme spotlights empowering children to make healthy, nutritious food choices.
