After a busy summer of day camps and long weekends, your house may need a firm hand to get back into shape for the fall. Back to school is the perfect time to reclaim your household, getting rid of the things that you don’t need anymore. Use these tips to declutter and organize your home:
Organize kid art. We all have soft spots for our children’s artwork. Sometimes, however, there is too much. Pull out all the artwork from the previous school year, save the substantial art or art that mainly reminds you of them. Still struggling with the idea of letting your children’s artwork go? Here are three apps that let you keep your children’s artwork.
Donate (or toss, if broken) toys. If the phrase “I’m bored,” has come up this summer, you’ll know what toys your children use. The holidays are a few months away, which mean even more gadgets are coming. Consider donating them to any Southeastern Goodwill.
Donate or recycle clothes. Make a pile of their clothes you think are too small or worn out. Have your children try them on to see if it fits. If there are younger siblings, make a hand-me-down box. In addition to Southeastern Goodwill, think about donating to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Parents, if it is your clothes, consider Bottomless Closet, a program that provides work-appropriate, gently used clothing to men and women entering or reentering the workforce.
Tackle your garage. After a busy summer, it’s possible the garage has become a dumping ground. Twenty-five percent of people with two-car garages don’t have room to park cars inside them—don’t be a statistic. Check out our 5 Tips for Organizing Your Garage.
